The Challenge
Newport City Council wanted to provide young people with a single, accessible platform to explore opportunities in education, training, and employment. The solution had to:
Work seamlessly across both iOS and Android.
Include financial support applications (up to £60/week).
Offer real-time notifications for updates and deadlines.
Support different user types (youth, mentors, admin).
Allow staff to manage everything in-house, without relying on external technical support.
Our Approach
We focused on designing a simple, intuitive, and scalable mobile app that puts young people first while giving staff full control in the background.
Planning: We worked closely with Newport City Council to understand the needs of both the youth audience and the staff team managing the programs.
Design: Accessibility and clarity were top priorities. The interface was designed to make it easy for young people to navigate opportunities and resources without barriers.
Development:
Mobile App: Built in React Native for fast, consistent performance across iOS and Android.
Backend & APIs: Powered by Node.js + Express with MongoDB for secure, flexible data management.
Authentication & Messaging: Implemented with Firebase for secure login, real-time database, and push notifications.
Admin Dashboard: Developed in React, giving staff a modern control panel to manage users, content, notifications, and engagement metrics.
Testing & Launch: The app underwent rigorous testing to ensure stability, data security, and smooth user experience before launching on both the App Store and Google Play.
Design: We designed a sleek, modern website that emphasized simplicity and ease of use. The design was focused on showcasing products beautifully while making the shopping experience as smooth as possible. Featured and popular products were prominently displayed to attract customer attention.

We launched the site on time, providing Keepsmiling 24 with a fully functional e-commerce platform ready for business.
